Danica Heidebrecht ("we," "us," or "our") operates dhpsychology.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our Site.
I am committed to providing my clients with a secure and confidential environment. This Privacy Policy outlines how I collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal and health information in accordance with the Health Information Act (HIA) of Alberta, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and the standards set by the College of Alberta Psychologists.
1. Collection of Information
I only collect personal and health information that is necessary to provide you with safe, effective, and ethical psychological services. This may include:
- Identity & Contact Information: Name, address, phone number, email, date of birth, and emergency contacts.
- Health & Clinical Information: Medical history, referral information, presenting concerns, psychological assessments if relevant, and therapy.
- Financial Information: Billing details, insurance coverage, and payment records.
2. Use of Information
The information I collect is used strictly for the following purposes:
- To assess your psychological health and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- To deliver individual therapy.
- To communicate with you regarding appointments, clinical updates, or administrative matters.
- To process billing and process claims with your insurance provider, if applicable.
- To comply with legal and regulatory requirements imposed by the College of Alberta Psychologists.
3. Limits of Confidentiality
As a psychologist, the information you share with me is strictly confidential. I will not release your records or speak to any third party about your care without your explicit written consent. However, there are specific legal and ethical exceptions where I am required to break confidentiality, including:
- If there is an imminent risk of serious bodily harm or death to yourself or another person.
- If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child (under 18 years of age) or a vulnerable adult.
- If your records are subpoenaed by a court of law.
- If an urgent medical emergency requires the sharing of critical health information with medical personnel.
4. Security & Electronic Records (Owl Practice)
I take the protection of your data seriously. I utilize the Owl Practice for my electronic medical records (EMR) and booking system. Owl Practice is designed to support compliance with Canadian privacy requirements, including applicable federal and provincial privacy legislation. Client health information is stored on encrypted Canadian servers, and the platform incorporates security safeguards to help protect sensitive personal health information.
Physical records (if any) are stored in locked filing cabinets within the secure office premises, accessible only to authorized personnel.
5. Access and Correction
You have the right to request access to your psychological records. If you believe there is an error or omission in your file, you may request a correction. To review your file, please make a written request to your attending psychologist. Access may be limited in rare circumstances where providing the information could result in severe psychological harm to you or another individual.
