Individual Counselling & Psychotherapy Services for Growth, Healing, and Change.

Life can be hard sometimes and sometimes we don’t have the map or skills to know how to deal with it. We all have blind spots, those places that we’re not aware of that can trip us up in our relationships and in life. Therapy can help.

Experiences I help with

You may look like you're coping on the outside, but inside...
Checkmark
You're exhausted from holding everything together.
Checkmark
You second-guess yourself constantly.
Checkmark
You feel responsible for other people's emotions.
Checkmark
You long for deeper connection but struggle to let people in.
Checkmark
You sense there's more to life than simply getting through the day.
Many of the people I work with are sensitive, thoughtful individuals who feel stuck in patterns they don't fully understand. They often know what they "should" do, yet continue to feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or caught in ways of relating that no longer serve them.

Common concerns include:

Feeling chronically overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally numb, or stuck in survival mode
Living with persistent self-criticism, shame, guilt, or a sense of never being enough
People-pleasing, over-functioning, and difficulty setting healthy boundaries
Struggling with trust, intimacy, vulnerability, or connection in relationships
Repeating painful relationship patterns despite wanting something different
Feeling disconnected from yourself, your emotions, or your sense of purpose
Difficulty feeling safe in your body, emotions, or relationships
Feeling stuck in self-defeating patterns or behaviors that persist despite your best efforts to change them
Healing the effects of trauma, difficult childhood experiences, or chronic stress
Navigating grief, life transitions, identity questions, spirituality, and personal growth
I believe many of the challenges we face are not signs that something is wrong with us. Rather, they are often adaptive responses to experiences that shaped us earlier in life.

The anxiety, self-criticism, emotional overwhelm, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or disconnection you experience today may have once served an important protective function. Therapy offers an opportunity to understand these patterns with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment.

My Approach

Parts Work and Integration

I use a parts-work approach to help you understand and integrate the different aspects of yourself—parts shaped by trauma, survival strategies, self-protective patterns, and early attachment experiences. Together, we also work to reconnect you with your deepest, most authentic self: the calm, compassionate core of who you are. By strengthening your connection to this inner resource, you can draw on it for clarity, resilience, and guidance as you navigate life's challenges and your path ahead.

Mind-Body Integration

Trauma is not just a memory of the past, it shapes our brain and body function in the present. Implicit beliefs and nervous system patterns often influence behavior in ways that may no longer be adaptive. Working in a way that invites your body’s awareness into the conversation can help you identify and work with these imprints, creating space for new learnings and possibilities that support your well-being.

Attachment and Developmental Patterns

Our early relationships profoundly shape our sense of safety, connection, and belonging. If you struggle with trust, self-worth, or setting boundaries, we work together to create secure, embodied relationships—both with yourself and with others.
My approach is collaborative, relational, and grounded in both modern neuroscience, attachment theory, and trauma-informed approaches including body-centred therapy. Together, we work to increase self-awareness, build emotional resilience, and create lasting change from the inside out.

About Danica Heidebrecht

M.Ed. RPsych

I am a practicing counselling psychologist based in Calgary, Alberta, with over 19 years of experience supporting individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and personal growth.

My work is informed by extensive training in attachment theory, somatic psychotherapy, trauma treatment, mindfulness, Internal Family Systems-informed approaches, polyvagal theory and interpersonal neurobiology. I am also interested in the role psychedelic medicine can play in mental health and healing. I have completed advanced training in psychedelic-assisted therapy and continue to engage in ongoing learning and mentorship in this evolving field.

I completed my Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of Calgary in 2005, and have been a registered psychologist dedicated to my client work since 2007. As a highly sensitive person, introvert, and someone who deeply cares about people and the importance of healthy relationships, I strive to create a safe, warm, and attuned therapeutic presence in my work.

My practice is marked by a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. I am a cisgender, able-bodied woman of European ancestry; I acknowledge my privilege and strive to create a space where individuals of all backgrounds feel seen, heard, and supported.

In my downtime, I maintain a regular meditation practice and am deeply committed to engaging in active practices that help me stay present to the full spectrum of the human experience—from moments of challenge and stress, to those that inspire awe, wonder, and joy. In 2025, I completed a two-year mindfulness meditation training program with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, deepening my practice and understanding. I love engaging in endeavors that support my growth and evolution whether it’s sport, yoga, reading, relationships, or breathwork. I also cherish meaningful connections with loved ones and find renewal in the quiet solitude of nature.
